Belgian Championships April 2010
I took a ride on Eurostar to Brussels for a SNCB / NMBS service to
Genk to swim at this meet; I was down to do two swims, 100m
surface and 50m AP.
There was a problem with the starter's whistle on my heat of the
50AP. Some of us took it as a faulty start and stopped, some carried
on the length of the pool.
The race was re-started but the starter left us on the blocks a long
time; I lost concentration and when I dived I could not sustain the
breath-hold, so I DNF.
I was registered in the 100SF but DNS. So as we had a no show in
the 400m IMM because we had no spare mmersion tank, margarita
Berezevskaja, who was to have have done the race, and I, combined
with Kaytii Darby (Kent) and Debbie Spoor (NL) in a scratch 4 x
100m SF team. We did well, and I got a PB (01:19.44) so that was a
result.
Sofija, Margarita's Daughter, did her first Long-course competition
and accquitted herself very well. Taking part in here first long-course
competition she competed in two races, the 50mm surface for Junior
categories and the 100m stereofins events. She rewarded the faith
put in her by her Mother Margarita and the
SaND club by clocking personal bests of 00:41.26” and 01:29.15”
respectively.
Margarita was just outside her PB time with 01:00.65” for the 100
surface event, but the most interesting event was not even
scheduled; she had been scheduled to swim a 400m Immersion
event but no spare scuba bottle was available,

As ever, given our limited training times this was an excellent result
and full credit to all swimmers is due.
